The did you know? Formatting SD card

On Windows, it is relatively easy to format (erase all data) a hard drive, USB key, or a (micro) SD card: simply open Windows Explorer, right click on the drive to format, and click format. And the turn is played after a few minutes. Whether you are looking for a hard disk, a USB stick or an SD card, as long as they are not corrupted and accessible, there is no worries, the formatting is done without worry.   Except that… It is not recommended to use this method for the SD card and microSD! Although this method works! And this advice comes from the SD association (association of manufacturers of SD card):

(…) It is strongly recommended to use the SD card formatter to format the SD card / SDHC / SDXC rather than using the formatting supplied with the individual operating systems tools. In general, the formatting provided with operating systems tools can format various storage media, including SD cards / SDHC / SDXC, but they may not be optimised for SD cards / SDHC / SDXC and can result in the weaker performance. Cards SD / SDHC / SDXC have a “protected area” for the safety of the SD card. The trainer of SD memory card formats not the area protected in SD cards / SDHC / SDXC. (…)
