Test / Review: audio headset / hands-free kit Bluetooth Digicare bone conduction

test-Avis-appreciation-critique-review-1

Classically, I want to say that at the level of the headphone, is there nothing again for quite some time… They are certainly become wireless through bluetooth, but otherwise, nothing really new under the hood. Even so-called high quality as the Beats headsets are apparently nothing new because apparently they have just added weight that do nothing to make you think that the helmet is heavier because it contains more electronic components to give you a better sound… A placebo effect in some way. Finally in short, all helmets using the same principle, they cover or enter your ears to give you the sound you want. All? Well no, he y a small Gallic village that still resists the invader technology which although dating since near 1 small renovated century to small public large level surface: the osteophonie or conduction osseusse.

The bone conduction or osteophonie

A picture worth a long speech, that is the difference between classic audio headsets (left) and the helmet to bone conduction (righconduction-bone-osteophoniet): apparently, this technology is mainly used on the military side, and for people with problems hearing. Why military? As shown in the picture, the osteophonie goes through the bones, thus leaving the ears free to hear your environment! Which means you can hear 2 different audio sources, and not listening to one that fills everything. For the hearing impaired, for example those who have leut eardrums torn, given that it does not use the eardrums, it can skip this step and allow them to hear. So what is this useful for Mr. and Mrs. everybody? Theoretically:

  • preserves your eardrums avoiding some accidents with speakers headsets
  • allows you to hear your environment as if you had no headphones while listening to your music
  • to not disturb others with the noise level of your headset fully implemented (e.g. in bus or train)
  • less heating at the level of the ears (for example closed helmets)

What headphones offers this technology? At present, there is very little, but I have the privilege to test one of these helmets with Rosalia Tech, Digicare DO helmet bone conduction Bluetooth 3.0 EDR with NFC. (Anecdote in passing, a well-known fast-food in the States decided to launch a full-scale test: put speakers to bone conduction audiometry under tables so that we can listen to music via the elbows!) Vibrations would therefore from the table, the elbow up to the cochlea. ) (N.B: it seems to me that Google Glasses also use this technology.) ) digicare-do-bluetooth

The test

So like any other technology compared to conventional headsets, headphones does not similarly: headphones are usually on or in the ears, here, it is at the front of the ears.position-conduction-bone It is clearly intended to be used outdoors or in noisy work environment: carabiner, hard case, tissue, sticker-reflective case, earplugs. The headphones water resistant, but not waterproof at high depth.

Comfort

At the comfort level, it is available in one size but you have a rubber strap that allows you to set some little back. As the helmet is entirely plastic, it is not heavy and is semi. Poses no problem for owners of glasses. On the other hand, the plastic in the black version (because there is a white version), keeps the traces of fingers. The maximum spacing is approximately 20cm, but the back (CRA) not flexible is about 13 cm. Length approx. 12-14cm.

Interface

For interfaces:

  • At the level of the arc: you have a microUSB port for charging, protected by a small piece of plastic. Switch ON / OFF button volume + and a volume knob-
  • At the level of “Atria”:
    • left: a mini button to answer/end your call
    • right: a mini button to Play/Pause

The microphone is located under the left atrium. bluetooth-headset-interface play-pause-headphone

NFC

The NFC connection, no information in the mode of employment, but after various tests, I conclude: If the headset mode pairing attempt, the NFC is completely idle. On the other hand, when it is no longer in pairing mode, it works fine. On the other hand, once the link is made, it is a bit slow to connect via Bluetooth.

Bluetooth

The Bluetooth connection: 10 metres are the classic Bluetooth, and had no problem there. In addition, the headset can connect to 2 devices at the same time. The utility is admittedly limited, but might still be useful e.g. connected on one side on pc go to watch a movie and on the other, with its smartphone, ready to take a call.

Compatibility

Thanks to the Bluetooth headset is compatible with all devices that have Bluetooth, whether smartphones running Android, iPhone, Tablet, pc, etc…

Audio quality

The audio quality… I thought this was going to be weird to hear via the os, but in reality, not at all. Quality is certainly diminished compared to speakers of fairs or via a radio, but it is really negligible. It remains perfectly pleasant to listen to. High volume, even not on the head near your ears, hearing is perfectly understandable. In fact, during your first refill, you’ll be perfectly ‘Power On’! For example: at a reasonable volume:

  • at end of arm, vibrations from the headphones are completely inaudible
  • the ear very slightly audible
  • door, perfectly audible sound

Tested the vibrations to other parts of the body: does not work :-D Tested against a tin can and a mini glass bottles: the sound is more spread in the air. N.B.: As all notifications that are made usually by headphones or speakers audio Bluetooth, the volume is never taken into account and it are always at high volume. (Notifications are in English)

Consumption

Its autonomy is about 6 hours in operation, which is in the average of bluetooth headsets. His autonomy in turned-on but rest is 10 days. About recharging, I know its consumption, but the readings for the incoming intensity for recharging is about 0.22 A. On the other hand, it cannot be recharged at the same time to be used: If you reload, and you switch to it, it will not work and will continue to charge. And if you put before on reboot, it will work if it still has the battery, but will not charge.

Conclusion

Ideal for outdoors or in noisy environments, this free kit-hands headset is ideal to hear your music or your partner without to stifle noise which could be hazardous to your health (pedestrian, shipyards, etc.). The sound is certainly not as clear as a helmet or the powerful speakers from the top of ranges, but it is widely audible, comprehensible and not unpleasant. I find just a little small headphones, but I have a pretty big head. But thanks to its flexibility, the helmet is not unpleasant to wear. The headset is supplied with accessories that are popular and which may be very useful for all athletes! Except a few aesthetic elements, this is a great headset for dangerous environments (Street, construction site, climbing,…). Also a bit of a shame that you can’t use it when it is charging.   Link: in http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B011EC15ZG/ test-Avis-appreciation-critique-review-2
