Test: Blitwolf BW-PSSD4 portable external SSD disc

Since hard drives have evolved into SSDs, Solid-State Drive has the wind in its sails. Especially external SSDs.

The advantages of external SSDs are that they are faster, smaller, lighter and more reliable than external hard drives.

More and more SSDs are being sold in M2 format, making them barely larger than a USB stick.

One of these external SSDs is the BlitWolf BW-PSSD4 which is an external 1TB SSD.

The packaging is a simple box. The SSD is protected by foam. The external SSD is accompanied by:

  • A male-male C-type USB cable
  • and another male type C – male type A

Which is already a good point because it is rare to find 2 USB cables with its SSD and these are the 2 types of USB port that we find most often, which makes your external SSD compatible with virtually all devices!

The external SSD is made of aluminum. Design level, for my part, it has a very beautiful design: the whole is slightly bright gray color with 2 shiny metal stripes in the middle. On the top, you have a very small slot that allows you to see the very discreet Activity LED.

Speed level, I measured 930mb/s, which is pretty close to what was announced. Be careful that you need a computer with a USB 3.2 port to be able to benefit from the maximum speed that this external SSD offers. Otherwise, you will be limited by the speed of your USB port and not that of the SSD.

Also know that I tested it on an Android smartphone, and although not specified as OTG, it is perfectly compatible with your Android smartphone (as long as it has a USB-C port or you have a USB-C adapter – micro-USB.

I found a flaw: the SSD in M2 format heats more than the SSD in 2.5" and unfortunately, this is also noticeable for the BW-PSSD4. The heat is still acceptable and it is not burning either, but you can feel it.

Conclusion

An excellent external SSD: small, light, fast and with cables provided.
